COVID-19 Updates

Updated April 1, 2022

In our previous communication regarding Covid-19 and mask requirements, we stated that we would re-evaluate beginning April 4.  The Parks & Recreation team still feels that masks, vaccinations, hand washing and sterilizing surfaces are best practices for keeping program participants safe.  With vaccines not available to all ages, we want to continue to take a proactive approach when it comes to our recreation programming. See below for how we plan to handle this in the coming weeks.

  • A mask is still required to be worn by all program staff, participants and spectators age 2 and older when at an indoor youth program, until further notice.  When we re-evaluate, we will share any changes that are being made and will send out another notice at that time.
  • All indoor adult fitness classes are now mask optional, however, participants are still encouraged to wear one.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us ensure a safe environment at our programs and events.  We appreciate your continued understanding of the difficult decisions involved in this pandemic.

Updated February 28, 2022

Dane County’s mask mandate is set to expire and Public Health Madison & Dane County will no longer require face coverings beginning March 1.  Dane County is still considered a ‘high transmission’ area according to the DHS, https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/covid-19/data.htm#summary. The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department will be taking a phased approach as it pertains to indoor programming.

  • A mask is still required to be worn by all program staff, participants and spectators age 2 and older when at an indoor youth program until at least April 3.  At that time, staff will take into consideration many factors as a possible decision to making masks optional beginning April 4.
  • All indoor adult fitness classes will continue to have a mask requirement until the end of this current session.  Because of the large space that allows for distancing during small group fitness classes, beginning the week of March 21, masks will be optional in adult fitness classes, however, participants are still encouraged to wear one.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us ensure a safe environment at our programs and events.  We appreciate your continued understanding of the difficult decisions involved in this pandemic.
