Reimagine Sun Prairie: Zoning Code Rewrite
The City is excited to announce Reimagine Sun Prairie, a community-driven initiative to update Sun Prairie’s zoning code and subdivision ordinances, aimed at creating a more prosperous, resilient, an equitable future. The focus of this effort is to prioritize the community’s vision and values in the development and design of public spaces while building on the City’s previous and recent planning efforts. Understanding the significance of zoning in shaping the community is essential as this update launches.
Updating the existing zoning code will be a multi-year project filled with a variety of opportunities for community input. A community survey is now available, offering community members the chance to begin sharing feedback.
To learn more about the project, take the first survey, and get involved, please visit www.ReimagineSunPrairie.com.
Check out the interview with Josh Clements, Planning Director, about details regarding this project!

Dane County Executive Jamie Kuhn and the Office of Energy and Climate Change (OECC) recognized 32 local entities for their leadership in reducing carbon emissions through the Dane County Climate Champions program.
The City of Sun Prairie earned 2024 Climate Champion status for two key initiatives:
- The Wastewater Treatment Plant installed a 403 kW solar array, making it the first municipal facility in Sun Prairie to run entirely on renewable energy. This is the largest municipal solar installation in the city.
- A partnership with Greenbox successfully diverted paper towels from landfills in municipal buildings, contributing to local composting efforts.

Below are some of the goals and particular issues staff hopes to tackle with the updated CORP:
2025-2029 CORP Goals:
- Tie in existing City plans:
- Active Transportation Plan
